Oklahoma State University Edmond Low Library

Picture this, you enter into college for the first time.

We are talking unchartered territory. A new adventure causing your stomach to explode with butterflies, and your head to spin right off your body. This new journey you are about to embark on for the first time is filled with a sense of anxiety and hope. At least for myself, it was all those feels and more.

College can be new, exciting and a bit overwhelming at times. For myself, I walked onto the Oklahoma State University campus knowing a handful of people. This excited me; a place with just enough familiarity to make me feel home, but not enough to give me complete comfort. Knowing I would have to be intentional with friendships was advice I heard, but never fully grasped until a wave of loneliness finally hit.

I remember sitting on my bed in my dorm freshman year of college crying. I felt as if I had no friends, no community and not one bit of hope for my future at OSU. I decided to move into the house of my sorority as my last-resort. If things did not change, I had a plan to transfer to another school for the fall semester. Looking back on these promises I made myself shocked me. Now, I could not imagine attending any other college besides OSU.

During my second semester of college, I was blessed with the most incredible community of people. I stopped spending most nights cooped up in my room and started seeking out people to make plans. Not only did I start investing in the people around me, I also began attending different student ministries. During this hard season in my life, the Lord continuously showed me his goodness through those around me.

It has been roughly a year since I promised to leave the very town I hated. I never expected to love and appreciate a place like OSU as much as I did, but here I am now. I love OSU because I have experienced love and acceptance like I never have before. What sets OSU apart from other college campuses are the people who go here. This place has a sense of geniality because people are truly interested in YOU. The people in this community don't just want to know who you are. They want to know what makes you, you and challenge you to become who you aspire to be.

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
